TIDES PARK: Construction of Nassauhaven has started

The nature-friendly bank takes the form of a gentle slope. The realization of a very gradual transition from water to land stimulates the effect of ebb and flow on nature development. As a result, the nature-friendly shoreline can offer fish a spawning and hiding place and opportunities for new macrofauna are created. Water and riverbank vegetation play an important role in this. The value can be further enhanced by placing pieces of wood in the water for organisms to settle on. A slope overgrown with helophytes (marsh plants) also functions as a natural bank defense.

After an initial trial, the final design for the bank is now ready and construction can begin shortly. This takes place in two phases:

  1. During the first phase, dredging will take place and the stability bed of the bank will be constructed. This stability bed must then settle, which will take about a year.
  2. Then phase two will be started, whereby a living layer will be constructed; the actually visible green at high and low water

If the construction goes according to plan, the residents of Nassauhaven can then enjoy this beautiful new piece of greenery in their area in the spring of 2019.
